The Energy Advisor Academy is an online training programme that helps you build the knowledge and skills to support people with their energy use. You’ll learn how to help others take control of their bills, improve home energy efficiency, and access the right support — particularly for those who need extra help to stay warm and well.
By completing the programme, you’ll earn the Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness, an industry-recognised qualification that allows you to offer official energy advice. You’ll also have the chance to gain the Level 2 Award in Fuel Debt Advice in the Community, which equips you to support people dealing with, or at risk of, fuel debt.
Energy Advisors are trusted, practical problem-solvers. They break down complex information, offer clear guidance, and support people facing difficult decisions about energy and affordability. The work is about people as much as it is about energy.
Duration: roughly 8.5 hours of learning per week, for 6 weeks
Location: Online, self-directed (complete around your schedule)
Qualification: Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness & Level 2 Award in Fuel Debt Advice in the Community
This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with others, cares about fairness and sustainability, and knows how to listen without judgment. Whether you have experience supporting people in your community or are simply someone who others turn to for help and advice, this could be a meaningful next step.
As an energy advisor you'll conduct home visits and phone consultations to ask residents a series of questions to gain an understanding of their energy consumption patterns.
The advice can include a variety of solutions, for example advising customers on reducing their fuel bills, switching suppliers, accessing discounts, changing behaviours, fitting small practical energy-saving measures like LED light bulbs and draft proofing, among others.
You'll also help raise awareness about other available support and helping householders access funded home energy improvements, e.g. loft insulation or heating upgrades.
Advisors play a key role in addressing fuel poverty and the energy crisis, making a significant impact to sustainability efforts across the country.
You will not be inspecting or assessing the energy efficiency of buildings and producing EPC reports. This is the work of a Domestic Energy Assessor, and is not included in the responsibilities of an Energy Advisor.
You will not offer advice relating to major repairs, or to electrical or plumbing work. As an Energy Advisor, the advice you give will mostly revolve around behavioural patterns, raising awareness about best energy efficiency practices, switching energy providers, ensuring the residents are utilising other available support, and so on.
You will however be able to refer them to other organisations, or available funding, that might provide repair or installation services related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.
You will not be promoting or selling any particular products or services.
The Greenworkx Careers Team will aim to match everyone who completes the course with Energy Advisor roles alongside providing CV and interview tips. We cannot guarantee you'll be hired in this process.
